ComicQuest | Kick Start

For today’s task, we were assigned to make a comic strip about a day at the beach. We used different props to help create a day at the beach. as well as different expressions on their face to show the feeling in that scene.

I found this activity fun because we were able to create our own story using our different ideas.

Superhero | Step it up

For the step it up task, I created a short comic strip of my character Matai Sili (Master Chief) and his rival Iakopo (James) I used one of Matai Sili’s weapons, the belt to showcase what he provides.

I found this fun interesting because I used my character and his rival to create a short story between them.

Superhero | Kick Start

For the kick start activity, I created a superhero based of my culture, which is Samoa. My character is from Savai’i, Samoa. The different abilities my character provides are super strength, mystic arts and super fast relflexes. He uses different weapons such as the wooden spoon and belt.

I found this activity interesting because I made a superhero representing where I’m from.

He and his family grew being poor, So his coach, Frankie Walker, took him and his family to help him out so he could focus on school and basketball.

Inquiry | Maori Enterprise

LI: Students will learn how to look after equipment and property.

For the past 2 weeks we have been learning about the history of Maori enterprise (Trading) what items they traded, the value and other things.

Maori enterprising first happend amoust themselves mainly between inland tribes and coastal tribes trading fish stocks for birds like kiwi and vise versa. This created an important interisland trading route in which everyone could trade for what they needed at that time.

5 sentence summery

The first Maori enterprise operation happend amongs themeselves mainly between inland and coastal tribes trading fish in exchange for birds were both items that the 2 tribes wanted were difficult to get from where they were located. This trading operation led to an interisland trade that was very crucial for tribes to get what they need. Later on when the Pakeha arrived in New Zealand they established a trading operation with the Maori, at first they often traded for fish stocks in ruturn for corned beef. Later on the Maori saw the potential of chisels and nails and started to request them for goodies to trade. This process kept on repating the Maori trading for new things that have potential and the pakeha trading for the natrual resources that the Maori had at their disposable.

This activtiy was intristing as I never had any prior knowledge about Maori enterprise and I got to expand my knowledge.

Ratios and Proportions

To kickstart our maths we have started to learn about ratios and proportions. A ratio is comparing two things showing the connection between them. To answer a question given with a ratio or proportion you always have to start with the first object that is given. For example: What is the ratio of 6 squares to 3 circles? As we can see that in the question the first object that is given is the squares, as we can see there are 6 squares, now we compare the 3 circles, which gives us a ratio of 6:3, 6 to 3 or 6/3. Wecan simply 6:3 into 1:2 since it represents one half, But what is proportion? Proportions have different numbers but share the  same value, for eg: 1:2 is the same as 2:4 which is also the same as 4:8. The reason why they are the equal is because they all share equivalent values.

We found this activity interesting because ratios are similar to fractions making it the activity a lot more simple as we already know the standard basic strategies in fractions.

Revolution | History

LI: To learn how to search and unravel the past/history of New Zealand.

This week my group had investigated and discovered things about the past of our pasifika people. We had choosen the word Revolution, we went onto a site that contains information needed, this site had a few tasks we had to complete, on each task it shows you either a podcast or a clip that shows you and gives you information. After that we had answered questions and put each task onto a slide. We had learnt about the past and the history of the PPP’s (Polynesian Panther Party), one of our tasks were to label all of the members names, one of their names were “Melani Anae” she is a Samoan who grew up with the other members in Ponsonby located in the west of Aotearoa. The other story we looked at was about the “Hero Parade” the hero parade is about the people who identify as their opposite gender. This was to show how they were proud to be gay in which they expressed how grateful they were to find out how many people supported them.

I enjoyed this task as it was about our pasifika peoples history and how the Polynesian Panthers dealt with the racism, I also enjoyed learning about the hero parade.
